I live on the 19th floor of a skyscraping building downtown. I live within walking distance of :
Roots (my new fave place)
About 15 shoe stores
H&M (I think we know I am in trouble)
And there's a liquor store on my corner ( I guess I picked the wrong time to cut back on the drinking... gulp)
What a drastic change from Los Angeles life it is, though. Love, love, love it.
So far my only beef with it is that the people here drive slow (yes, slower than old grannies in the south) and it's beyond me why. It's like they've got nowhere to go.. maybe I'm jealous. Maybe I wish I was just that laid back.
But seriously, Canucks- Green means GO. Not stop, not yield. GO. Onward. Vamanos!
The city has a cool English (English as in the UK) feel. Tons of pubs. I think most of my meals have been at pubs. Great food, great drinks. Great people. Have I mentioned that I love the people?
We are surrounded by nature and I can't wait to do more outdoorsy stuff. I have a feeling I will be wet most of the time as we are surrounded by rainforest and well, everyone's pretty much said "you're going to be wet most of the time". Hopefully I can go for some successful hikes without getting mauled by a grizzly. Or cougar.
Did I mention there are grizzlies and cougars?
Have no fear! That's what I say. I can't let some wild animals prevent me from seeing a rainforest. No way. No how.
So far my only outdoorsy excursion was biking the seawall. It was awesome. Didn't get to do the whole thing so take 2 on that is probably this weekend. I forgot how much fun biking was. And how much it hurts your crotch.
So, so far in Vancouver I've walked from one end of the city to another. Shopped. Eaten. And drank (my god... have I drank..) I've left money on a bar top (overnight) and had it returned (told you people were nice) - Thank you folks at Johnnie Fox's Snug . I learned what poutine is and I have also learned that I do not enjoy whiskey. I even found a Mexican restaurant I like (no surprises there).
Stay tuned for stories of bear near misses, biking accidents (let's face it, you know I'll have at least one), and oh yes - THE TRIP TO PROFESSOR X'S SCHOOL FOR MUTANTS.
Over and OUT. Check out some cool Vancity shots in my shot gallery.
